Jakarta (UR): Indonesia added two more gold medals from the kyorugi (sparring) event in taekwondo at the 26th SEA Games on Monday with Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Andi Mallarangeng watching from the stands.

The two gold medals were won byFransiscaValentina and Basuki Nugroho at GOR POPKIinCibubur, East Jakarta.

Indonesia could have made it three gold medals on the day but Siska Permata Sari was beaten 3-1by Sarita Phongsri in the final of the under-53 kilogramclass.

Fransisca put on a powerful display to overcome Malaysia’s Nurul Asfahlina 8-2.

This was her first gold medal in her four appearances at the SEA Games.

“It’s special because I won despite playing injured," she said.

Fransisca’s path to victory included eliminating Thailand’s Buttree Puedpong, the 2008 Olympic silver medalist, in the opening round, and stopping Tior Leste’s Luis Dos Santos Rosa before taking on Nurul in the final.

Basuki, meanwhile, defeated the Philippines’ Jose Anthony  7-2 in the men’s 87-kilogram class.

“This is the best retirement present I could hope for,” he said, adding that this would be his last appearance in the SEA Games.

The two gold medals brings to five Indonesia’s gold haul in the sport. Thailand leads with 7 gold. UR-10
