Agus prayogo: A disappointing gold medal performance

Palembang (UR): While triumphing in the men’s 5,000 meters on Tuesday at the 26th SEA Games, Indonesia’s Agus Prayogo said he was disappointed that he failed to set a new Games record.

He won the race in Palembang by clocking in the fastest time of 14 minutes 10.01 seconds to give him his second gold at the SEA Games. His first came in the 10,000 meters.

“Actually I wanted to break the SEA Games record here but it didn’t happen. This is far from my best time of 14:02,” Agus said. He broke the national record at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou.

The SEA Games record was set by Malaysia's Murusamy Ramachandran at 14 minutes and 8.97 seconds in 1993.

Agus said he was also disappointed about not breaking the 10,000 meters Games record despite winning gold in a time of 30 minutes and 10.34 seconds. This is below the 2003 Games record set by Eduardo Buenavista of the Philippines in 29:29.

Agus blamed the weather in Palembang for his slower time.

At the 2009 SEA Games in Laos, he also won gold in the 10,000 meters, but did not compete in the 5,000 meters. UR-1/UR-5
