Jakarta (UR): Indonesia’s under-23 national football team conceded a 1-0 loss to Malaysia in the final group match at the 26th SEA Games at Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta on Thursday.
The lone goal came in the 17th minute from Ibrahim Syahrul Azwani.

The result drops Indonesia into second position in Group A to set up a semifinal tie with Vietnam, the winner of Group B. Malaysia tops the group with 10 points against Indonesia’s nine.
Indonesia coach Rahmad Darmawan made changes to his starting lineup that had won its last three matches.

The absence of Indonesia’s top scorer Pattrich Wanggai was exploited by the Malaysians.

Captain Yongky Aribowo and his team were spurred on by a vocal pand partisan home crowd, but failed to stem the attack that culminated in the game’s only goal.

A Indonesia tried to pull back but failed.

Malaysia had come into the game needing a draw to march through to the semifinal after Singapore beat Thailand in the first group match on of the day.
In the second half, Indonesia attempted a counterattack through Titus Bonai but failed to get the ball past goalkeeper Che Mat Khairul Fahmi.

Another chance in the 51st minute by Ferdinan Sinaga also went begging. Titus again squandered a chance when his ball swerved inches away from the post.

The mounting pressure resulted in several yellow cards, while Malaysia’s coach was sent off for protesting a decision.

Getting desperate, Rahmad played benched starter Oktavianus Manuani, but no goals were forthcoming. UR-1
