Palembang (UR): The Philippines’ Fransisco Bustamante made it to the semifinal of the men's individual 9-ball billiards at Jakabaring Sports Center in Palembang on Friday at the 26th SEA Games.
Bustamante defeated Vietnam’s Nguyen Ahn Tuan 9-7. He will face Indonesia’s Ricky Yang, who defeated Thailand's Nitiwar Kanjanasri 9-4.
Ricky said he was determined to appear in the final. “I will face anybody. Anything could happen in this game. I will fight,” he said.
Ricky added that his defeat to the Philippines’ Dennis Orcollo in the men’s individual 8-ball earlier would not weigh on his conscience.
“I don’t think about the loss. I will stay focused on this important semifinal," he said.
Fans could be treated to an all-Indonesian final if Ricky advances and Irsal Nasution defeats Do The Kien of Vietnam in the other semifinal.
Irsan made it to the semifinal by defeating the Philippines’ Jundel Mazon 9-8, while Kien defeated Thailand’s Kobkit Palajin 9-8.
Irsal, who is making his debut at the SEA Games, said that he was happy with his progress.
He said the win was revenge for his defeat at the hands of Jundel at an international tournament.
Indonesia has won two silver and two bronze medals, but gold has been elusive. (UR-7)
