Palembang (UR): The Philippines and Thailand will meet in the women's softball final on Saturday at the 26th SEA Games.
Thailand booked a berth in the final after beating Indonesia 3-0 on Friday. They overcame Malaysia 9-6 and Singapore 4-3 in previous matches.
Watched by hundreds of home fans at the Senayan softball field in Jakarta, the Indonesian team never looked like threatening the Thais.
Indonesia, which lost to the Philippines earlier, had to be content with bronze.
Gugun Yudinar, the chairman of the Indonesian Baseball and Softball Association (Perbasasi), blamed the defeat on the lack of participation by his team in international tournaments.
Indonesia had aimed to at least make it to the final, however, a third-place finish was a fair achievement, Gugun reasoned.
Team captain Radhiana Iskandar said they had given their best but were not lucky.
“We will be looking at improving in the future,” she said. (UR-4)
