Depok, West Java (UR): The Indonesian equestrian team won its second gold medal at the 26th SEA Games, this time in show jumping, in Depok, West Java, on Saturday.
“This victory is all the sweeter given how tough the competition was,” Ardi Hapsoro Hamidjojo said at the medal ceremony at Arthayasa Stables.
Indonesia won the event with a combined score over 2 rounds of 13. The Philippines took silver with 17 and Malaysia settled for bronze with 30.
Thailand was left out of the medal hunt with a total score of 32.
Ardi dedicated the win to the owners of the horses, the trainers and others who worked with the team.
“I hope this success will elevate the profile of Indonesia’s equestrian sports,” he said.
Ardi added that he felt athletes should receive more support in order to win at a higher level, such as at the Asian Games.
Indonesia’s show jumping squad consisted of Putri Hamidjojo riding La Belle 140, Ardi on Zandor, Andry Prasetyono on Lund Star and Denis Christian Sanjaya on Pazia Greta.
Indonesia’s first gold at the equestrian competition came in dressage.
The dressage team consisted of Ferry Wahyu Hadiyanto riding Bonita, Djofli Momongan on Wyatt Earp, Alvaro Menayang on Desperado 172 and Larasati Gading on Wallenstein 145.
Indonesia also won silver and bronze in the team and individual eventing, respectively. Two more gold medals are still on offer: the individual dressage on Sunday and the individual show jumping on Monday.
