Malaysia dominates first day of synchronized swimming

Palembang (UR): Malaysia’s synchronized swimming team won both gold medals on the first day of synchronized swimming at the 26th SEA Games at the Jakabaring aquatics arena in Palembang on Saturday.

The first gold medal came from Kannia Abdul Jadi and Zyairan Zhen Huang Lee in the duet with a score of 76.125. The silver medal went to Singapore’s Yap Yu Hui and Mei Shaung Lee with 72.750 and Indonesia rounded out the podium with Sabrina Arsy and Adella Armanda Nirmala’s 70.500.

The second gold went to Malaysia in the women’s team technical competition with a score of 74.750. Thailand picked up silver with 70.750, and Indonesia was again left with bronze with a score of 70.375.

Indonesian synchronized swimming team manager Fitrah Utami said after Indonesia still had a chance to win two gold medals as targeted in the team free routine and the combination event.

The 12 members of the Indonesian team have been coached by Chinese trainer Sii Wang since July.
