
Jakarta (UR) – Indonesia’s women’s futsal team trounced the Philippines 10-2 at the 26th SEA Games at the POPKI sports hall in Cibubur, East Jakarta, on Saturday.
Rani Mulyasari led the surge with four goals, while Novita Murni Piranti and Maulina Novryliani found the back of the net twice. Anggi Puspitasari also scored one for the host.
The Philippines’s goals came through Honey Thomason and Merian Ronquillo.
Indonesia attacked from the start, with its efforts paying off through Rani’s first goal from an assist by Novita.
The Philippines equalized through Thomason within a minute.
Ronquillo scored as Indonesia was leading 3-1 in what up to then was a close match, but it was the last goal by the Philippines.
Philippine coach Xarex Velasquez praised the Indonesia’s solid defense.
“Indonesia was the better team. It’s acceptable that we lost because our athletes had only six months to prepare,” he said.
Indonesia coach Viernes Ricardo Polnaya said the team had learned from its two previous matches where they suffered embarrassing losses to Thailand (8-0) and Vietnam (6-0).
