Myanmar crushes Vietnam to win football bronze

Jakarta (UR): Myanmar beat Vietnam 4-1 in the third place playoff match in the football competition of the 26^th SEA Games in Jakarta on Monday to win bronze.

The goals came through Kyaw Zeyar Win in the 33rd and 54th minutes, Kyam Ko Ko in the 83rd minutes and an own goal by Vietnamese defender Ngo Hoang Thinh. Vietnam’s only goal was scored by Lam Anh Quang

Myanmar focused on defending and quick counterattacks, with effective long balls into Vietnamese territory. This strategy quickly extinguished Vietnam’s aggressive attacking from both wings.

Vietnam got its first chance at goal in the ninth minute, but Nguyen Van Quyet’s shot from inside the goal area was blocked by goalkeeper Thiha Sthu. Vietnam was in control of the game but found it difficult to get past the Myanmar defense.

Myanmar’s rigid defense and long passes on the counterattack often saw Kyam Ko Ko and Kyam Zeyar caught offside.

The opening goal came in 34th minute through Kyam Zeyar after he picked up on a free kick to slot the ball home.

Vietnam kept on attacking and tried to equalize before the break, leaving gaps in the defense that Myanmar’s Yan Aung Kyam attempted to capitalize on, but was blocked by goalkeeper Nguyen Tuan Manh.

Into the second half, Myanmar switched gears to take control of the game. Their attacking game led to a number of chances that went begging.

The second goal came in the 54th minute through Kyam Zeyar Win. Myanmar then found itself leading 3-0 after an own goal by Ngo Hoang Thinh, who was looking to clear the ball but sent it into his own net.

Not content with the three-goal lead, Myanmar put a fourth on the board through its top scorer Kyaw Ko Ko in the 83rd minute.

Vietnam’s only goal came in the 88th minute through substitute Lam Anh Quang, but it was too little too late.
