National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia is announced as the official airlines of the 26th Southeast Asian Games.

President of PT. Garuda Indonesia, Tbk, Emirsyah Satar on Monday (14/3) has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Rita Subowo, Chairwoman of the Indonesia SEA Games Organizing Committee.

The signing held at Garuda City Center of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta was also attended by Minister of Youth and Sports Andi Mallarangeng and Inasoc Director General Rachmat Gobel.

With the MoU, Garuda Indonesia has shown its supports on the Games held in Palembang and Jakarta, Nov. 11-22, especially in transportation. Besides, Garuda Indonesia will also hold a campaign together with the organizers to develop public awareness in succeeding the Games.

Andi expressed his gratitude and honor for Garuda's initiativeness to sponsor the Games.

"I really hope it would be followed by other state-owned companies," Andi said.

Meanwhile, Emirsyah said it is part of Garuda's responsibilities as national flag carriers to make the Games a success.

"Garuda is not only responsible to support the country's economy through business, trade, and tourism development, but also in national sports development," Emirsyah said.

"This MoU signing is part of our efforts," he added.

Organizers welcome Garuda's involvement in sponsoring the Games.

"Garuda is a part of our efforts to successfully hold the Games," Rita said.
