Needed : 15,000 SEA Games Volunteers

The success of SEA Games will be achieved with supports coming from all over the country and volunteer participation is one of them.

The Indonesia SEA Games Organizing Committee (Inasoc) said they still look for about 15,000 volunteers to help succeed the Games held in Palembang and Jakarta. Only 1.500 signed up so far.

"We need more volunteers to help the organizers with the Games. Their involvement is as important as preparing the sports venues," said Ginung Pratidina, the organizer's Deputy Secretary General during a discussion forum called Obrolan Langsat or Obsat in Jakarta on Tuesday evening.

The lack of numbers of volunteers, he said, is because of the minimum campaign for the Games.

Starting April, the organizers will reach out to schools and universities to recruit potential volunteers.

"Those who are aged 15 to 35 years old are prioritized," Ginung added.

The Indonesia Olympic Committee will be working with Directorate General of Higher Education of the State Ministry of the National Education to push the effort.

The organizers also still opens online registration on its official website www.seag2011.com.

So what kind of benefits selected volunteers will get?

Ginung said the organizers will grant them certificates stating they have volunteered for the SEA Games, beside uniforms, and other basic necessities.

"By becoming volunteers, it will give them benefit of team work experience that would be useful once they hit the real working world," he said.

The organizers will help selected volunteers getting special permits from schools and universities they are studying at to work with them.

"It is time for you all to show that you care by involving in succeeding the country's event," Ginung said.
