Accomodation for the SEA Games XXVI athletes, officials, and guests is secured following an agreement regarding room-bookings between the Indonesian SEA Games Organizing Committee (INASOC) and Hotel Managers in Palembang.

Head of the Indonesian Hotels and Restuarants Association (PHRI) South Sumatera, Herlan Asfiudin, INASOC agreed to pay in advance for 30% of the total  1,300 rooms, comprising of five-star hotel and motel rooms.

“INASOC has given a 30% down payment, and at the end of April will pay 50% of the total amount,” said Herlan, Wednesday (27/4) after a meeting relating to the SEA Games preparation with the Department of Culture and Tourism and the Assistent III of South Sumatera Provincial Government at the South Sumatera Provincial Government Office.

He also added that the total amount of rooms secured for foreign guests was 4.389 rooms, comprising of 22 luxurious hotels and 92 cheap hotels. “However, this information is subject to changes,” he said.

To guarantee a successful South Sumatera as host, Herlan promised the best services for foreign guests.

“As hotel managers, we will provide the best facilities in order to achieve a successful Palembang SEA Games. We also expect that this will result in large numbers of overseas visitors even after the Games commences.”

Vice President of INASOC, Muddai Madang informed that the remaining balance for room-bookings will be paid shortly . “I am not sure when, however. We need to coordinate further with the central (government),” he explained
He also added that if room shortages occur, INASOC will inform the central (government) so that more rooms can be added.

We expect the biennial sporting event will be a success, keeping in mind when the SEA Games finishes, Palembang will be appointed as a national athlete training center,” he concluded.

Previously, Governor of South Sumatera, H. Alex Noerdin assured that accommodation for athletes, officials, and foreign guests should not be a concern. Three four-star hotels and one five-star hotel has been built in Palembang especially for the upcoming SEA Games. Should the  hotels provide inadequate number of rooms, the Provincial Government of South Sumatera will utilize the haji dormitory at KM 10.
