Media coverage is one of the most important things organizers must push in succeeding every sporting event, including the 26th SEA Games.
On Wednesday (1/6), the Indonesia SEA Games Organizing Committee (Inasoc) signed a deal with media group PT. Media Nusantara Citra Tbk to promote the Games held Nov. 11-22 in Palembang and Jakarta across the country. MNC is the fourth prestige partner after Panasonic, Garuda Indonesia, and Indofood.
With the deal, MNC becomes the first exclusive broadcasting right holder of the Games. It deserves to broadcast six of 43 sports to be played during the Games; badminton, dragon boat race, football, futsal, rhythmic gymnastic, and swimming.
"PT. Media Nusantara Citra Tbk has responsibility to help make every government's program a success, including sporting events. It is part of our commitments to participate in national sports development," said the company President, Hary Tanoesoedibjo after the signing ceremony.
Inasoc President, Rita Subowo adressed her gratitude on MNC's effort, saying that bigger media coverage will help promote the Games.
"As a host country, we all must understand how important the support is to promote and stage the Games. MNC's participation will help us raise public concern to support our athletes during the competition," Rita said.
Inasoc Director General, Rachmat Gobel hopes MNC will not be the only media group to participate.
"We welcome other media groups to buy exclusive rights to broadcast other sports," Rachmat said.
State Minister of Youth and Sports Andi Mallarangeng said media coverage is important to spread the spirit of the Games.
"I believe more media will join MNC to become Inasoc's partners," he said.
