
From Mrapen, the journey continues to Borobudur. There was no torch relay at the 9th century temple. At that largest temple in Indonesia, RCTI as the official broadcaster held the Borobudur Concert Road to SEA Games. There were many Indonesian’s singers in that concert.
Such as, Max 5, Dragon Boys, girlband 7 Icons, The Virgin, and Ahmad Dhani. With their music, they really could burn the spirit of SEA Games for the athletes. Furthermore, the Indonesian SEA Games’ theme song also sung by two Indonesian singers, Ello and Sherina. That song can be heard in the concert. The audiences got burned dan jumped by the song. The exotic atmosphere at Borobudur made the concert looked more beautiful to see.
Borobudur is a Buddhist temple located in Central Java. This temple was built by King Samaratungga on 9th century, when the Javanese kingdom was ruled by Syailendra clan. Samaratungga was one of the kings of ancient Mataram, a kingdom in Java. The name Borobudur was derived from Bara and Budur. Bara means temple or monastery in Sanskrit, whereas Budur from Beduhur means up above. Thus, Borobudur can be literally means a monastery at the hill (above).
From Borobudur, the torch goes to Yogyakarta. The Vice-Governor of Yogyakarta, Paku Alam XIII, also said that the torch relay would burn the people’s spirit of Yogyakarta. He hoped that the same spirit would also burn the people where the torch would be relayed.
Yogyakarta is one of the tourist’s destination in Indonesia. Thus, you will find many awesome tourist places there. Such as The Sultan’s Palace, Prambanan Temple, and many beautiful beaches. Furthermore, you can find many delicious food there, for example bakpia, and gudeg, that the delicious one can only be found in Yogyakarta.
From Yogyakarta, the relay moved to Semarang. The torch was given from the torch ambassador of Yogyakarta, Finarsih, to the torch ambassador of Central Java, Ruwiyati. Finarsih is a former national badminton athlete. She was the gold champions of ASIAN Games 1996 with her partner, Eliza Nathanael.(*)
