Palembang (UR): The 8-ball competition at the 26th SEA Games will definitely be tight given the presence of 2011 world champion Denny Orcollo from the Philippines. However, Indonesian Ricky Yang refuses to be awed by the Philippinesâ world-ranked players, saying he would do his best to win the gold medal in his specialty, the 9-ball game. âDenny is my toughest opponent, but I am ready to take on anyoneâ Ricky said after practice at the OPI Convention Center in Palembang on Thursday. In his first 8-ball competition, Ricky Yang faces Kobit Palajin while Adhi Braja Palachi will take on Luis Saberdo. âI have never competed against Palajin but I am sure I can beat himâ Ricky said. At the 2009 SEA Games in Laos, Indonesia took home two silver and two bronze medals in billiards. Ricky won one silver in 9-ball and 2 bronzes in the 8-ball singles and doubles, while Angelina Ticoali took home silver in 8-ball. This time around, Indonesia is expecting two gold medals. âWe hope to win two gold medals from the 8-ball and 9-ball, but we also will do our best to score medals from other eventsâ Indonesiaâs billiards head coach Robby Suarly said. Billiards team manager Soedaryanto agreed, but added that âtwo gold medals is realistic, but surprises can always happenâ. There are 10 gold medals up for grabs in billiards, two each from 8-ball, 9-ball, English billiards, snooker and carom billiards. The Indonesian contingent this time around will miss the presence of multiple SEA Games carom billiards gold medalist Ir Ananta due to his work schedule. âAnanta is unable to participate because of his current work schedule so we have had to bring in James Lengkan, Herowanto, Tan Kiong Han and Tony Ho,â Soedaryanto said.
