Palembang (UR):  Indonesian boxer Afdan Batila conceded that boxers from Thailand and the Philippines would be the opponents to watch in the medal chase at the 26th SEA Games in Palembang.

While confident about his chances, he said he could not wait for a matchup against opponents from the two countries.

Afdan said he wanted to win a medal for his country.

“I will keep on fighting to achieve gold,” Afdan’s coach, Din Jauhari, said in Palembang on Friday.

He added that Afdan, who competes in the 64-kilogram class, should prove a tough match against opponents from Thailand and the Philippines, two countries renowned for its boxers.

“Although they are tough competitors for Indonesia, I am positive Afdan can win a gold medal,” Din said.

He added that Afdan would have to work hard to win gold.

Din said 76 men and women from 11 countries would look to win a boxing medal in Palembang from 14-21 November. “I am optimistic Afdan will succeed and give his best for his country.” UR-5
