Pekan Raya Jakarta (PRJ)

 

Pekan Raya Jakarta (PRJ) held for the first time at Monas on June 5 until July 20 in 1968 and opened by President Soeharto to remove the carrier pigeon. PRJ first is called the DF, which stands for Djakarta Fair (Old Spelling). Underlayer spelling gradually turned into the Jakarta Fair which was more popularly known as Jakarta Fair.

The idea appeared or was first initiated by the Government of that time was led by Governor Ali Sadikin or better known by Bang Ali in 1967. The idea or the idea, because the Government of that time wanted to make a major exhibition that concentrated and lasts a long time. Government of that time also wanted to unify the various "night market" that when it was still spreading in some areas of Jakarta. Gambir Night Market is held every year in the former Field Ikada (Monas area now), is also an inspiration from the exhibition, which is claimed as the "Largest Exhibition"is.

Inspired by Gambir Night Market which was crowded with visitors from the former, the Government wants to make a breakthrough with the direct form temporary committees entrusted to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin). To be more legitimate or official, the Government issued Regional Regulation (Perda) no. 8 of 1968 which among others provides that PRJ will be a fixed agenda and held before the annual anniversary of Jakarta, which is celebrated annually on June 22.

A foundation that provided the name of the Foundation Exhibition Organizers and Jakarta Fair is also formed as a management PRJ. In accordance Perda no. 8 / 1968 The foundation's task was not only held PRJ but also as an organizer of the promotion and Entertainment Arena Jakarta (APHJ) which is scheduled to take place throughout the year.
