Ampera Brigde

 

Jembatan Ampera is the icon of Palembang city, Sumatera Selatan province. The bridge, which is located exactly in the center of the city, connects two regions of the city that is divided by Musi River. This size bridge is 1,117 meters long, 22 meters wide and 11.5 meters high.

This bridge has a great historic value. It was built in the Japan colonization and named Jembatan Bung Karno after the name of Indonesia’s first president. Then, the name was changed into Jembatan Ampera because of a strong anti-Sukarno movement happened at the time. Ampera itself is an acronym of Amanat Penderitaan Rakyat, meaning a message of people’s sufferings.This bridge is also one of favorite tourism destinations in Palembang. Many domestic and foreign tourists visit this bridge just to enjoy a panoramic view of Palembang City. Tourists can also enjoy the gracious of this bridge, especially in the evening since this bridge is equipped with advanced lighting system from LED Signs.

This computerized lighting system made the bridge filled with lights whose color changes automatically and periodically. From this exotic bridge, tourists can also enjoy the magnificence of Musi River.
