Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Museum

Built in 1823, it had originally served as residence to Dutch officials in charge of the city during that time. It is unsurprising therefore, that visitors today will be able to study from objects in the museum relating to the era of the Dutch occupation.

Interestingly however, the museum also displays pre-occupation artifacts such as collections of ancient statues of past kingdoms which ruled the area far before the Dutch came. Also exhibited in the museum are fascinating collections of art and biological objects, all of which are sure to impress visitors.

One of the most important qualities of the museum is that it has a library of books of virtually all topics relating to Palembang’s history. In addition, tourists are more than encouraged to hire a ‘walking library’ in the form of educational guides persons, the museum’s version of a tour-guide, all of whom, are always ready to educate visitors.
